WHAT IS
HE GETS US?

A new way to explore the story of Jesus’ life and teachings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our agenda at He Gets Us is to move beyond the mess of our current cultural moment to a place where all of us are invited to rediscover the love story of Jesus – Christians, non-Christians, and everybody in between. All of us. Read more about it here

No, He Gets Us is not a back to church campaign. We are inviting people to [re]consider Jesus and why his story matters. For some, the journey to explore Jesus might begin in a church and for others, it might start in a different place. Regardless, we’re excited about people exploring the story of Jesus in their own way and at their own pace. Read more here.

This is probably the most common question we receive. And we understand why. Many of those who represent Jesus have made people in the LGBTQ+ community feel judged and excluded. And others in the Jesus community have simply ignored their stories and lived experiences.

So let us be clear in our opinion. Jesus loves gay people and Jesus loves trans people. The LGBTQ+ community, like all people, is invited to explore the story of Jesus and consider his example of unconditional love, grace, and forgiveness of others. No matter who you are, YOU are invited to explore the story of Jesus and consider what it means for your life.

It’s about Jesus, so it’s certainly affiliated with Christianity, but our point is that the story of Jesus doesn’t belong to anyone. It has something to offer to everyone — inviting Christians, non-Christians, and those who aren’t sure what they believe to consider Jesus.

We believe there is something in the story of Jesus for everyone.

That’s why fans of the project and those working on it include people who are curious about this man and his story and want to explore it for themselves, those reconstructing their faith and aren’t quite sure yet, and those who believe Jesus is the son of God. We’re all on a journey together.

It wouldn’t be hard to guess that many of those collaborating with He Gets Us believe that Jesus is who the Bible says he is. He Gets Us is a project under Come Near, a nonprofit startup, who believe that Jesus was human and divine, he rose from the dead, and more. No matter who you are and what you believe, we’re glad you’re here.

A nonprofit startup, Come Near, is now fully managing the He Gets Us project.

The movement is not funded by or affiliated with any single individual, political position, church, or faith denomination. We have a coalition of supporters who represent a variety of lived experiences that have led them to wildly different perspectives on many things. Some are on opposite sides of different political and social issues in our day. But they share this one thing in common: They’ve been inspired and transformed by the story of Jesus and want to invite you to explore it, too.

Sign up and be a part of a diverse group of people who are interested in joining us to explore the story of Jesus. We’ll keep you engaged throughout the year, sharing stories and experiences that will allow you to explore as deeply as you want. Look forward to no pressure, no judgment, no pretense. Just the joyful disruption of our preconceived notions of Jesus.

We’ve “sold” out of our free gear, and our Give Love, Get Gear program is paused as we work to enhance it. There are two things you should know. The first is that giving away gear in exchange for kindness was a huge success, and we’re committed to building out other programming like it that gives our fans opportunities to spread love and kindness the way that Jesus did. And the second is that the stories and stats that came out of this are absolutely beautiful — read more about it here.
